Tips For a Rainy Wedding Day & How to Make the Most of It!

Wedding

I know, I know nobody really wants to talk about this topic, however, it’s so important you do! Living in Michigan, you never know (during all seasons) what kind of weather you’re going to get on your wedding day. Rain on your wedding day is not ideal but something you should definitely be prepared for just in case. Here are tips to make the most of your rainy wedding day!

  1. Be prepared and always have a back up plan!
    • Always, always make sure if you are planning to have your ceremony outside to have a back up plan! Before you even book the venue, double check with them about the plan if it happens to rain.
    • Umbrellas come in handy!! I have a few clear umbrellas in my car just in case on wedding days!
    • Grab your favorite rubber boots to make it even more FUN!
  2. Be flexible and know the timeline/plans could change!
    • First and foremost, know we will make the absolute most of it! The timeline may have to be tweaked and moved around depending on the weather. One of Brian’s jobs on a rainy wedding day is to watch the radar so we adjust the timeline accordingly day of.
  3. Don’t look at the weather!
    • Don’t worry about things you can’t control until you have to confront them. If your weather.com is as accurate as mine, it’ll change every day leading up to the event anyways, and as long as you have the right gear in your bag, there’s really nothing else you can do!
  4. Embrace the rain!
    • Grab an umbrella and enjoy it! It makes the most romantic photographs that no one else will have and I’m not going to lie they’re some of my favorites!! I also adore the sound it makes on the umbrellas; it turns the romantic vibes up a notch higher! 🙂
    • If you’re worried about your dress, we can bustle it so it doesn’t drag on the ground!
  5. Relax and trust your photographer and know that all I need is one porch/covering to create gorgeous natural light photos!
    • I always make sure to arrive early to scout the venue for back up places to shoot in the event it rains. As I mentioned earlier all I need is one porch or awning to make beautiful, natural light photos.

If you take one thing out of this blog post my hope is that it’s not to worry/stress (you’ve hired rockstar vendors and they’ll take care of you!), embrace the beauty of the rain, and know at the end of the day you’ll be married to your best friend and nothing else matters!

xo,
